Synopsis

In a period of ten years, the US$450 million satellite market in Asia grew from two to 20 major players. The increasing demand for bandwidth for business use, including the explosive growth of multimedia applications and the Internet has been driving the acquisition of new satellite capability in the region. Satellite operators have been shuffling and re-shuffling satellites in order to offer more capacity. All Asian countries with a GDP over US$90 billion, except Brunei, have acquired domestic satellites. This report provides an overview of the major satellite operators in the region.
