Synopsis

FlowCom owned and operated a broadband fibre-optic transmission network between Melbourne, Canberra, Sydney and Brisbane, with links to regional centres in NSW, QLD and Vic. Since 2001, FlowCom’s core wholesale carrier bandwidth business declined. The company moved its focus to providing end-user data services including broadband ADSL Internet access, Website hosting, Virtual ISP, Co-Location and facilities management. In 2002, a consortium of investors had taken over FlowCom’s debt liability to network vendor Alcatel, and agreed to convert debt into equity, effectively taking over control of the company. In January 2004 the company had been put under Administration and Perth based ISP iiNet purchased the FlowCom ISP business for $6.3 million in cash.
