Synopsis

Archived report. This report was archived in October 2005 and has not been updated. The years 2001 and 2002 were very slow for most types of equipment, both for consumer Internet access and for infrastructure. 2003 saw a minor recovery overall, with indications that 2004 would start the recovery. Sales of PCs are forecast to increase slowly, whereas sales of their laptop counterparts and wireless Internet access devices will grow at around twice that rate. Handheld, such as tablet PC, device sales are still declining. Suppliers expect a recovery in fibre optic cable and semiconductor sales from 2004 onwards, but this is more due to a perceived need rather than increasing orders.
