Synopsis

Archived report. This report was archived in 2008 and has not been updated since. The number of Internet users has more than doubled since the year 2000, and in 2007 there were over 1.1 billion people online worldwide. Future growth is expected from countries with large populations and Internet users in India, the Russian Federation and China are already showing signs of significant growth. While the Internet is still growing at a good rate overall, the growth rate is declining in developed markets. This will not increase again until broadband and wireless options are further developed and prices reduced. This report includes overall statistics and forecasts for Internet users including penetration and growth. The report also provides brief information on Internet bandwidth, language statistics and time spent online by users. See separate reports for detailed broadband statistics.
