Synopsis

Archived report. Telemetry applications are expected to boom and are integral to the emerging Internet of Things (IoT) environment. Intelligent digital devices, which chatter away almost incessantly, exchanging all kinds of information automatically and transparently to the people around them, will mean that the global telecommunications network will soon resemble a worldwide computer network, rather than the voice-only mechanism for person-to-person communication it represented to its founders. RFID also has a promising future in Machine-to-Machine transmission applications/IoT and is already in widespread use around the world.

This report provides an introduction to telemetry, RFID and M2M and also describes other remote access services such as remote monitoring and remote sensing satellites. An overview of each service is provided, along with an example of its practical application.

Latest developments:

Interestingly, it is the car manufacturing industry which is implementing a number of telemetry and M2M solutions into vehicles; the security industry; logistics; utilities; retail and healthcare are also industries which are taking up these types of applications; the Internet of Things, M2M, RFID and Telemetry are very hot topics around the world.
