Synopsis

Archived report. This report was archived in 2009 and has not been updated since. In 2009 there were around 4 billion mobile subscribers worldwide, with some of the more mature markets having over 100% penetration. The mobile industry is pinning its hopes on the emerging markets sustaining subscriber growth levels as the industry attempts to weather the economic downturn. So far this is holding true with both India and China reporting positive subscriber growth in late 2008. This report provides global subscriber statistics, together with regional breakdowns and forecasts of future growth. Detailed information on Prepaid and 3G can be found in separate reports.
