Synopsis

Facsimile still rates third after the telephone and the PC as the most important CPE unit in businesses. However, e-mail is rapidly making serious inroads into this market. By the early 2000s, new fax developments have been mainly relegated to a number of niche markets, it has lost a very large part of its initial much wider messaging use. But perhaps even more importantly there is no new growth in fax as most new applications are moving to electronic systems.
