Synopsis

INTELSAT is a major commercial satellite communications services provider. Its global satellite system brings television, telephone and data distribution services to billions of people on every continent. It was initially an international non-profit cooperative of around 144 member nations, but was converted to a private company in 1999. It owns and operates a global satellite system that provides voice/data and video services to users in more than 200 nations, territories and dependencies on every continent. In early 2002 it announced that it intended to issue an IPO before the end of the year.
