Synopsis

Nextel provides digital mobile communications throughout the United States by offering integrated wireless services, primarily to business users. Its mobile network uses Motorola’s iDEN, technology. Its services include digital cellular, voice mail, text/numeric paging capabilities and Nextel Direct Connect - a digital two-way radio feature that allows a user to contact up to 100 numbers at the touch of a button. Nextel has international holdings through NII Holdings, which has wireless operations and investments in Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Peru and Chile. Following financial troubles, NII was restructured, with Nextel retaining 18% ownership. In December 2004, agreement was reached to merge with sprint.
