Synopsis

Sprint is a global communications company and an integrator of long-distance, local service, and wireless communications. It is also a carrier of Internet traffic using its own fibre-optic IP network, is the US’s third-largest provider of long-distance services, its local division currently serves 18 states. In November 1998, Sprint split its operations into two groups, the FON Group and the PCS Group. The above-mentioned activities comprise the FON Group. The PCS Group comprises a 100% digital personal communications service wireless network, with PCS licences to provide service to the entire US population, including Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands. In 2004, Sprint decided to recombine the two operations into one trading stock. In December 2004, the Sprint and Nextel agreed to merge their operations.
