Synopsis

T-Mobile is a major provider of digital wireless communications in the US. Together with its affiliates, it provides services in most of the top 25 US wireless markets, and owns licences to provide service to 86% of the US population. It uses and operates GSM technology, and is the only US wireless provider with a national GSM network. T-Mobile supports roaming capabilities for travellers in the US and has international roaming agreements with more than 185 of the major operators worldwide providing service in over 80 countries. During 2002, there were rumours that T-Mobile might be a takeover target for Cingular or AT&T Wireless. In September 2002, the company traded exclusively as T-Mobile. It has become a major Wi-Fi operator in the USA.
