Synopsis

Telecom Américas is a facilities-based company with investments in four Brazilian Band B cellular operators. It was established in November 2000 as a joint venture between América Móvil, Bell Canada International (BCI), and SBC International (SBCI). In July 2002, América Movil acquired BCI’s and SBCI’s shares, and Telecom Américas became a consolidated subsidiary of América Movil. Initially, Telecom Américas held investments in Brazil, Argentina, Colombia and Venezuela. However, a company reorganisation in February 2002 narrowed its focus to wireless operations in Brazil, and all of its operations outside of Brazil were transferred to América Móvil and to BCI.
