Synopsis

Archived report: this report was archived in August 2005 and was last updated in February 2005. Listed on the Buenos Aires and New York stock exchanges, Telecom Argentina is indirectly controlled by Telecom Italia. It provides domestic and international fixed-line telephony, dial-up and ADSL Internet services. Its mobile unit Telecom Personal was the market leader until January 2005, when competing operator Telefónica completed the acquisition of Movicom BellSouth. The economic crisis in 2002 had serious repercussions on Telecom Argentina, leading to freezes on debt repayments. The company began to recover in 2003, and during 2004 is again started to invest in its infrastructure. The company filed for out-of-court restructuring of its debt in October 2004.
