Synopsis

This report was archived in July 2007 and was last updated in December 2005. After years of trying to invest in overseas ventures and national media companies, in 2004 Telstra decided to refocus on its core business. A gradual upgrade of its infrastructure will take place within its existing maintenance budget – slowly creating a fully IP-based nextgen network and pushing fibre ever closer to the home. This whole process could take 10-15 years. In late 2005 Telstra revealed plans for its NGN developments, this report also includes an analysis of these activities.
