Synopsis

XO was created from the merging of Nextlink Communications and Concentric Network Corporation in 2000, and provides broadband communications services to businesses over fibre-optic facilities across the United States. It has plans to enter the global market. It is the largest holder of fixed wireless spectrum in North America, and has acquired exclusive rights to part of the Level 3 owned IP-centric fibre optic backbone network. In 2002, it was unable to raise its additional cash requirements from the stock market. After entering and emerging from Chapter 11 bankruptcy, it has a restructured balance sheet.
