Synopsis

This report has been archived. With a small market and scarce resources Tasmania has to work hard to develop its telecommunication services. A number of interesting regional projects are currently underway. In November 2006 the TasCOLT FttH project in Tasmania was officially launched. First trial users should be connected to the network by the end of November 2007. The project relates to the installation, deployment and operation of ultra broadband services. The Launceston Broadband Plan, which began over five years ago, has been extended to 2006 to include wireless services. Aurora Energy launched a trial of the first global commercial broadband over powerlines service by the trial was abandoned in November 2007.
